Laundry Soap

I went to a class a few weeks ago to learn how to make natural cleaners for the home. I have been making my own cleaners for a year or so, but I learned a lot at the class and gained the confidence I needed to do more and use some different ingredients. We didn't make laundry detergent at the class, but everyone seems to be doing it these days, and the ingredients for the other cleaners we made in the class can be used to make the laundry detergent too. I already had Washing Soda and Borax. The ingredient I didn't have was Castile Soap. It's $16 at Whole Body (next to Whole Foods) for 32 oz. That seemed like a lot of money to me, but you can make so much stuff with it and lots of laundry detergent. So here's the recipe I'm using for laundry detergent . . .

1/3 - 1/2 cup liquid Castile soap, 1/2 cup Washing Soda, 1/2 cup Borax

Mix in large bucket with 2 gallons of hot water and stir.

Below is a 5 gallon bucket I bought at Wal Mart and put a homemade label on.

That's it! I filled an old bubble bath bottle with it to use on a daily basis, and I keep the rest in the 5 gallon bucket with a lid. I use 1/2 cup per load of laundry. Once my bottle gets low, I'll refill it from the bucket. The bottle is just easier to handle.

Oh, and you need to shake the bottle before using as it seperates some as it sits. You'll also want to stir the liquid well before refilling the bottle from the bucket for the same reason.
