Living in the country, we have an awesome array of birds. I love sitting and looking at them in the yard and even from my kitchen window while doing dishes.
The bird below is a Hairy Woodpecker, I believe. I really like watching woodpeckers in my yard, and this one is especially pretty.
A useful website for identifying birds is http://www.allaboutbirds.org/.
I have a book called Birds of North America, but I can't find it, which makes me mad, but it's a great book for helping to identify local birds.
We went to the local nature center recently and made birdfeeders out of pinecones, peanutbutter, and bird seed. Once we had them hung on trees outside, we watched from the window, and the birds ate 'em up!
This picture isn't all that clear as I took it through my kitchen window, but here is one little visitor who appreciated the peanutbutter and seed.
I got home one day from working out one rainy day last week to find this beauty in the creek. It's a Blue Herron.
We're a little late as the birds have been grouping in our yard for weeks now, but we finally filled our birdfeeder today, which has had many hungry visitors.
I think this bird on the left of the bird feeder is a Black-capped Chickadee.
